About me
Hi! I'm Lindsey.

I'm a health educator, like to run at a slow, but steady pace, teach group fitness classes, and do my best to keep up with my family that's spread across the country. In the midst all of that, playing in the kitchen is one of my favorite stress relievers and creative outlets, so this blog chronicles some of my favorite cooking and baking adventures, but in the process it also tells the story of the rest of my life.

Like many people in the Triangle area, I'm a transplant. After spending the first 21 years of my life in the midwest, I've been settled in North Carolina for seven years. One of the things I love most about the area is the diversity of local farms, farmers' markets, and great food, so I follow lots of local food happenings, but I also keep up with my fair share of Midwestern favorites.

If you like what you find here, feel free to drop me a note and email Yummy things. I'd love to hear from all of you out there!

Mother’s Day

I seem to have accidentally left a teaser about my mother’s day in my last post and then went MIA for two weeks.  Sorry!  My first mother’s day was a lovely day.

Hazel all dressed up in her overalls for Momma’s first Mother’s Day

The day started out with Dan taking care of Hazel so I could get an extra morning nap before getting up for the day, when I enjoyed some wonderful cornmeal waffles.

Then we had the lucky opportunity to be able to drive to Petersburg, VA to catch up with my parents.  It’s about a 2.5 hour drive, and it turns out that there’s not much to do in the town on the second Sunday in May, but it was nice to see my mom on my Mother’s Day. It was a little wacky that my parents were in Virginia for the weekend, but it was nice to be able to make a day trip to see them, instead of having to deal with flights or day long road trips to Indiana.

And Hazel was a hit, as usual.

The weather was lovely, so we were able to just enjoy a three hour meal outside at Andrade’s International Restaurant.  Despite the generic name, we had some great food and a lovely chance to catch up.

Not from Mother’s Day, but such a good shot, I had to share anyhow

And Hazel survived the day trip surprisingly well.  We have since decided that it really is best to get Hazel back home before her regular bedtime, instead of trying to squeak in an extra 30 minutes, assuming the car will calm her, but it was worth some extra effort at the end in exchange for such a nice day with such a nice baby.
