About me
Hi! I'm Lindsey.

I'm a health educator, like to run at a slow, but steady pace, teach group fitness classes, and do my best to keep up with my family that's spread across the country. In the midst all of that, playing in the kitchen is one of my favorite stress relievers and creative outlets, so this blog chronicles some of my favorite cooking and baking adventures, but in the process it also tells the story of the rest of my life.

Like many people in the Triangle area, I'm a transplant. After spending the first 21 years of my life in the midwest, I've been settled in North Carolina for seven years. One of the things I love most about the area is the diversity of local farms, farmers' markets, and great food, so I follow lots of local food happenings, but I also keep up with my fair share of Midwestern favorites.

If you like what you find here, feel free to drop me a note and email Yummy things. I'd love to hear from all of you out there!

Thanks-giving

Thanksgiving has proved that this blog is about my life, and the food that we eat in it, rather than a food blog.  Before Thanksgiving, all the foodies were busy testing recipes, taking pictures, and writing about their recommendations for just the right fixings for the big day.  I, on the other hand, was thankful for the availability of a Thursday morning flight that allowed us to stick to our regular schedule, fly to NY, and easily arrive in time for the big meal, feeling confident that the kitchen team was fixing us an excellent holiday dinner.

Hazel and her relatives - everyone but Dan (he was off playing football with his cousins)

We had a great time introducing Hazel to our usual Thanksgiving tradition - the big turkey dinner in New Rochelle, and then a second Thanksgiving with all the leftovers back in Boston.  She’s a lot more wiggly than the last time we took her on a plane (back in July), but overall, Hazel did very well on two flights and the car ride between NY and Boston.  And it was totally worth it, because in addition to seeing the usual Davis crew, we were lucky enough to have my parents join us for Thanksgiving dinner in New York, and my aunt, uncle, and cousin, who live in New Jersey, even stopped in to say hello as they drove north.

Also, we really enjoyed having the flexibility to fly back on Monday, because it meant we were able to enjoy some relaxing days visiting Dan’s brother in Marblehead and taking his grandmother out for lunch (and a surprise birthday celebration!).  Plus, it meant a few more days of leftovers, before returning to an empty fridge.  Really, I don’t understand why there’s so much complaining about leftover turkey; I think there’s nothing better than leftovers from a big holiday meal.  With all the different dishes, you can recreate all sorts of different meals.

Hazel even made her first trip to City Hall.  She was quite a hit.  She’s so happy and agreeable to being held that it was like she was campaigning!

It was a weekend full of reasons to be thankful.

Thankful for the ability to travel, and the fact that kids under 2 fly free.
Thankful for good food, and all the wonderful people who fixed it for us.
Thankful for temperate weather, and the fact that it didn’t make me look like too much of a wuss after living in the south for 9 years.
Thankful for friends and family, and family that are friends.
Thankful for this life, and for all of you who are in it.
