About me
Hi! I'm Lindsey.

I'm a health educator, like to run at a slow, but steady pace, teach group fitness classes, and do my best to keep up with my family that's spread across the country. In the midst all of that, playing in the kitchen is one of my favorite stress relievers and creative outlets, so this blog chronicles some of my favorite cooking and baking adventures, but in the process it also tells the story of the rest of my life.

Like many people in the Triangle area, I'm a transplant. After spending the first 21 years of my life in the midwest, I've been settled in North Carolina for seven years. One of the things I love most about the area is the diversity of local farms, farmers' markets, and great food, so I follow lots of local food happenings, but I also keep up with my fair share of Midwestern favorites.

If you like what you find here, feel free to drop me a note and email Yummy things. I'd love to hear from all of you out there!

Fading into Fall

This post was supposed to be about the end of summer, but I think I’ve kind of missed the boat on that.

Three weeks ago, we fit in an end of the season trip to Cape Cod. We thought it might have been a little too cool to take Hazel into the water, but she loved it.  We hit up two different ponds, and she kicked up a storm.

Hazel also had a great time hanging out with her Uncle Aaron, Aunt Caroline, and cousin Mia.  And she took home a few special gifts from her Grandma!

She even got to visit with her Great-Grandma Bea in her Red Sox finery, before the team really started falling to pieces.  More photos in my Flickr set and Dan’s

Then we tried to stretch summer out a little further, with a last weekend at the pool, even though the temperature had already dropped and the water was down to 73 degrees.

But then the first official day of autumn rolled around last week.  Over the weekend, our meal swap was full of dishes with sweet potatoes and butternut squash.  And yesterday was our last CSA box for the season.  So although I’m sure we’ll have a few more days with warm temperatures, we’re slowly sliding into fall.

So, more fall favorites are sure to come, but in the mean time, here’s a yummy way to cook up lentils and chard .  As the cooler weather greens make more of a presence at the market, give it a try (Kelsey)!
